YES TO THIS! And CONGRATS to you on seven years! You removing alcohol from your life benefited (and continues to benefit) you in so many ways, and it benefits the rest of us in one big way: we get to experience the real, true, authentic Samantha. And she is a gift.
Hi - I am new to your Substack and your wisdom is really inspiring me this morning! You mentioned in this post “daily practices and an overhaul of your values and ethics”: do you write more about this somewhere? I am newly alcohol free (five months!) and I am trying to figure these things out for myself. Taking all the help I can find! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Congratulations on living 5 months alcohol free! Thanks for reading my posts. I will try to find some posts about daily practices and share them here. But, in the meantime. I think there were two things that helped me. One, I woke up with the intention not to drink each day and wrote about it in my journal and meditated first thing in the morning. The other thing regarding "values and ethics" was that I think I said yes to a lot of things that I wanted to say no to. Alcohol was there to numb any feelings I had about situations I didn't like. So, I had to ask myself "Do I like this person I'm spending time with? Do I like doing this (activity, thing, etc)? Do I have other hobbies and if not, can I create some? Hope this helps. Keep going!
Congrats on 7 years!
Thanks so much!
